Aguateca is an ancient Maya site located in the Petén region of Guatemala. Known for its well-preserved ruins, Aguateca was a major center during the Late Classic period (circa 600-900 AD). The city is notable for its impressive defensive walls and strategic position atop a limestone bluff, which provided natural protection. Excavations have revealed intricately carved stelae, elaborate residential complexes, and a variety of artifacts that offer insights into the daily life, politics, and warfare of the Maya civilization.
