The Aletsch Glacier, located in the Bernese Alps of Switzerland, is the largest glacier in the Alps, stretching over 23 kilometers (14 miles). It covers an area of approximately 82 square kilometers (31 square miles) and contains around 15.4 cubic kilometers of ice. This UNESCO World Heritage site is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, with ice formations and rugged mountain scenery. The glacier originates from the Jungfrau region and flows down towards the Rhône Valley. It is a vital source of scientific research on climate change due to its sensitivity to atmospheric temperature variations.
