The Ashbel Smith Building, often referred to as "Old Red," is a historic structure located in Galveston, Texas. It was completed in 1891 and serves as a significant landmark on the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) campus. Designed by prominent architect Nicholas J. Clayton, the building features a distinctive Romanesque Revival architectural style with its red brick exterior and ornate detailing. Named after Ashbel Smith, a founding father of UTMB and a prominent figure in Texas history, the building has been utilized for various educational and administrative purposes over the years.
