Awash National Park

Awash National Park, located near Adama in Ethiopia, is one of the country's oldest and most scenic national parks. Established in 1966, the park covers an area of approximately 756 square kilometers and is situated in the Great Rift Valley. The park is renowned for its diverse ecosystems, which include acacia woodlands, savannah grasslands, and the lush riverine forests along the banks of the Awash River. Awash National Park is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including over 80 mammal species such as the Beisa oryx, Soemmering's gazelle, and the endemic Swayne's hartebeest. Birdwatchers will find the park especially appealing, with over 450 bird species recorded, including the rare and striking Abyssinian roller and the secretary bird. One of the park's most striking features is the Awash River, which cascades over a dramatic gorge, creating the picturesque Awash Falls. Visitors can also explore the hot springs at Filwoha and the ancient volcanic landscape of Mount Fentale.
