Banská Bystrica is a historic city located in central Slovakia, surrounded by the picturesque Low Tatras mountains. It is known for its rich mining history, particularly in copper and silver, which dates back to the Middle Ages. The city boasts a charming old town with well-preserved medieval architecture, including the iconic SNP Square, the Clock Tower, and the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Banská Bystrica also played a significant role in the Slovak National Uprising during World War II, an event commemorated by the Museum of the Slovak National Uprising.
