The Basilica of La Merced in Cusco, Peru, is a stunning example of colonial baroque architecture and an important historical landmark. Originally constructed in the mid-16th century, the church has undergone several restorations due to damage from earthquakes. It features an ornate facade with intricate carvings and a distinctive bell tower. Inside, visitors can find a rich collection of colonial art, including a famous solid gold monstrance encrusted with precious stones. The basilica also houses the remains of Diego de Almagro, a prominent figure in the Spanish conquest of Peru.
