Boyana Church, located in the suburbs of Sofia, Bulgaria, is a medieval Bulgarian Orthodox church known for its exquisite frescoes. The church, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, consists of three buildings constructed in different periods. The oldest part dates back to the late 10th or early 11th century, while the second section was added in the mid-13th century during the Second Bulgarian Empire. The most notable feature of Boyana Church is its well-preserved frescoes from 1259, which are considered some of the most important examples of medieval Eastern European art. These frescoes depict a range of religious scenes and figures, showcasing advanced techniques and a high degree of realism for their time.
