Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, located on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, is an iconic beacon known for its distinctive black and white spiral stripes. Standing at 198.5 feet, it is the tallest brick lighthouse in the United States. Originally completed in 1870, the lighthouse was designed to warn mariners of the treacherous Diamond Shoals. In 1999, due to beach erosion threatening its foundation, the lighthouse was famously relocated 2,900 feet inland to preserve its legacy.
