Český Šternberk Castle, located in the village of Český Šternberk in the Czech Republic, is a well-preserved medieval fortress with a rich history dating back to the mid-13th century. Perched on a rocky hill overlooking the Sázava River, the castle was originally constructed by the nobleman Zdeslav of Divišov, who later adopted the name "Sternberg" (Šternberk) after the castle. The name "Šternberk" is derived from the German words "Stern" (star) and "Berg" (mountain), reflecting the star emblem of the Sternberg family. Over the centuries, Český Šternberk Castle has undergone numerous modifications and expansions, reflecting various architectural styles, including Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque influences. Despite these changes, the castle has retained much of its medieval character and charm. Today, it is owned by the Sternberg family and is open to the public, offering guided tours that showcase its historical interiors, including period furnishings, artworks, and a collection of weapons.
