Chan Chan is an ancient archaeological site located near Trujillo on the northern coast of Peru. It is the largest adobe city in the world and was the capital of the Chimú civilization, which flourished between 850 AD and 1470 AD before being conquered by the Inca Empire. The city covers an area of approximately 20 square kilometers and is known for its impressive earthen architecture, intricate reliefs, and complex irrigation systems. Chan Chan's layout includes nine large rectangular palaces, each serving as a self-contained unit with ceremonial rooms, burial platforms, and reservoirs. The site reflects the Chimú's advanced urban planning and sophisticated social organization.
