Château de Loches is a striking medieval fortress located in the town of Loches, in the Indre-et-Loire department of France. Constructed initially as a stronghold in the 9th century, it underwent significant expansions and modifications during the 11th and 12th centuries under the direction of Fulk III, Count of Anjou. The castle is renowned for its massive keep, which stands as one of the finest examples of Romanesque military architecture in Europe. Throughout history, it has served various roles, including a royal residence and a state prison.
