Château de Peyrelade, located in Rivière-sur-Tarn, France, is an impressive medieval fortress that dates back to the 12th century. Perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Tarn Valley, the castle was strategically important for controlling the region. The name "Peyrelade" is derived from the Occitan words "peira" and "lada," meaning "wide rock," which aptly describes its imposing natural foundation. Although partially in ruins today, visitors can still explore its remnants, including the keep, walls, and towers, which offer a glimpse into its historical significance and architectural prowess.
