Chion-in is a prominent Buddhist temple located in the Higashiyama district of Kyoto, Japan. It serves as the head temple of the Jodo-shu (Pure Land) sect of Buddhism, which was founded by the priest Honen in the 12th century. The temple complex is renowned for its massive Sanmon gate, one of the largest wooden gates in Japan, and its spacious grounds that include several important structures such as the Mieido Hall, Seishi-do Hall, and the Amida-do Hall.
