The Church of Saint Simeon Stylites in Syria is one of the oldest surviving church complexes in the world, dating back to the 5th century. Located approximately 30 kilometers northwest of Aleppo, this Byzantine church is named after Saint Simeon Stylites, a Christian ascetic who famously lived atop a pillar for 37 years to escape worldly temptations. The church was built around the base of this pillar and is part of a larger monastic complex that includes several other structures such as a monastery, baptistery, and two smaller churches. The site is renowned for its impressive architectural design and historical significance, reflecting the early Christian monasticism and pilgrimage practices.
