The Citadelle Laferrière, located near Cap-Haïtien in Haiti, is one of the most significant landmarks in the Caribbean. Constructed between 1805 and 1820 by Henri Christophe, a key leader in the Haitian Revolution and later king of northern Haiti, this massive fortress was built to defend the newly independent nation from potential French incursions. Perched atop Bonnet à l’Evêque mountain, the Citadelle offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
