Coricancha, also known as the Temple of the Sun, is one of the most significant and revered sites in Cusco, Peru. Originally built by the Inca civilization, it served as the principal religious center dedicated to Inti, the Sun God. The temple's walls were once covered in sheets of gold, reflecting the importance of the sun in Incan culture. Spanish conquistadors later demolished much of Coricancha and used its foundations to build the Convent of Santo Domingo, a unique fusion of Incan and Spanish colonial architecture that still stands today.
