Craco is a fascinating ghost town located in the province of Matera, in the southern Italian region of Basilicata. Perched on a rugged hilltop, Craco offers a dramatic and picturesque view of the surrounding landscape. The town's origins date back to around the 8th century AD, and it was a thriving medieval village for centuries. However, a series of natural disasters, including landslides, earthquakes, and floods, led to its gradual abandonment in the 20th century. By the 1960s, the remaining inhabitants were relocated to a nearby valley.
