The Crazy Horse Memorial, located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, is an ongoing mountain carving project dedicated to honoring the Oglala Lakota warrior, Crazy Horse. Initiated in 1948 by sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski and commissioned by Lakota elder Henry Standing Bear, the monument aims to celebrate Native American culture and heritage. When completed, it will depict Crazy Horse riding a horse and pointing into the distance. The site also includes the Indian Museum of North America and the Native American Cultural Center, providing educational resources and exhibits.
