El Mirador is an ancient Maya city located in the dense jungles of northern Guatemala. It flourished during the Preclassic period, reaching its zenith between the 6th century BCE and the 1st century CE. The site is renowned for its massive architectural structures, including La Danta pyramid, one of the largest pyramids by volume in the world. El Mirador is often considered the cradle of Maya civilization due to its early development of complex urban planning and monumental architecture. Despite its historical importance, the site remains relatively remote and inaccessible, requiring a multi-day trek or helicopter ride to reach.
