Elizabeth Castle is a historic fortress located in St Helier, Jersey. Built on a tidal island in St Aubin's Bay, the castle has served various defensive roles since its construction began in the late 16th century under the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, after whom it is named. Over the centuries, it has been used as a military garrison, a refuge for the Royalists during the English Civil War, and a key defensive point during the Napoleonic Wars. Today, Elizabeth Castle is a popular tourist attraction, offering visitors a glimpse into its storied past with well-preserved fortifications, barracks, and stunning views of the surrounding bay.
