Fort Larned National Historic Site in Larned, Kansas, is a well-preserved example of a frontier military post from the Indian Wars era. Established in 1859, the fort served as a key protection point for the Santa Fe Trail, safeguarding travelers and mail coaches from potential attacks. The site features nine original sandstone buildings, including barracks, officers' quarters, and a hospital, which have been meticulously restored to their 1860s appearance. Visitors can explore these historical structures, view exhibits detailing the fort's history, and participate in living history programs that bring the past to life.
