Fort Ross is a historic site located on the Northern California coast, about 12 miles north of the town of Jenner. Established in 1812 by the Russian-American Company, it served as a hub for the Russian fur trade and as a supply base for Russian settlements in Alaska. The fort was constructed primarily to support the Russian colonization efforts and to engage in trade with local indigenous populations, including the Kashia Pomo people. The site features reconstructed buildings, such as a chapel, blockhouses, and living quarters, which provide a glimpse into the early 19th-century life of the settlers.
