Golden Spike National Historical Park in Utah, USA, commemorates the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in North America. On May 10, 1869, the Central Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads were joined at Promontory Summit with the ceremonial driving of a golden spike. Visitors to the park can see replicas of the famous locomotives, the Jupiter and No. 119, participate in reenactments of the historic event, and explore exhibits detailing the monumental effort and impact of this engineering feat.
