Hiva Oa is an island in the Marquesas Islands, part of French Polynesia. Known for its rugged landscape and rich cultural heritage, Hiva Oa is often referred to as the "Garden of the Marquesas" due to its lush vegetation and fertile valleys. The island is famous for being the final resting place of French artist Paul Gauguin and Belgian singer Jacques Brel, both of whom are buried in the cemetery of Atuona, the island’s main village. Visitors to Hiva Oa can explore ancient Polynesian archaeological sites, including large stone tikis and petroglyphs, which reflect the island's historical significance.
