Hohensalzburg Fortress, perched atop the Festungsberg hill in Salzburg, Austria, is one of Europe's largest and best-preserved medieval castles. Constructed in 1077 by Archbishop Gebhard, the fortress was expanded and fortified over the centuries, especially during periods of conflict and tension. Its imposing walls, towers, and bastions provided a formidable defense, while the interior housed the archbishops of Salzburg and served as a stronghold and administrative center.
