Hwaseong Fortress is a historic fortification located in Suwon, South Korea, constructed during the late 18th century under the orders of King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty. The fortress was built to honor and house the remains of his father, Prince Sado, and to create a new city that could serve as a secondary capital. Spanning 5.52 kilometers, Hwaseong combines traditional Korean design with innovative military architecture, influenced by both Asian and Western styles. The structure includes impressive features such as four main gates, bastions, observation towers, and artillery towers.
