Khertvisi Fortress, located in the village of Khertvisi in southern Georgia, is one of the country's oldest and most impressive fortifications. Perched on a rocky hill at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Paravani rivers, it has strategic significance and a commanding view of the surrounding landscape. The fortress dates back to the 2nd century BC, according to some sources, and has been rebuilt and renovated multiple times throughout history. It played a crucial role during various periods, including the medieval era, and was an important defensive structure against invasions. The complex includes a citadel, walls, towers, and a church, showcasing the architectural ingenuity of ancient and medieval Georgian builders.
