Kibira National Park, located near Bujumbura in Burundi, is a lush, protected area that spans approximately 400 square kilometers. Known for its rich biodiversity, the park is predominantly covered by montane rainforest and is a crucial habitat for various species of flora and fauna. It is home to a significant population of chimpanzees, as well as other primates like colobus monkeys. Bird enthusiasts will also find Kibira National Park appealing, as it hosts over 200 bird species. The park is part of the larger Congo-Nile Divide and plays a vital role in water catchment for the surrounding regions.
