Laguna de la Cocha, also known as Lake Guamuez, is a picturesque high-altitude lake located in the Nariño Department of southern Colombia. Nestled in the Andes mountains at an elevation of approximately 2,800 meters (9,186 feet) above sea level, it is one of the largest natural lakes in the country. The lake spans an area of about 40 square kilometers (15 square miles) and is renowned for its stunning natural beauty and rich biodiversity, including unique flora and fauna. The surrounding region is characterized by its lush páramo ecosystems and traditional indigenous communities, particularly the Quillasinga people, who have a deep cultural and spiritual connection to the lake.
