Lake Retba, also known as Lac Rose, is a unique and stunning natural wonder located in Senegal, just northeast of the capital city, Dakar. The lake is renowned for its striking pink hue, which is caused by the presence of Dunaliella salina algae. These microorganisms produce a red pigment that absorbs sunlight, giving the lake its vibrant color, especially during the dry season when the salinity levels are high. Lake Retba is also notable for its high salt content, which rivals that of the Dead Sea, allowing visitors to float effortlessly on its surface.
