Lake Titicaca is a large, deep lake located in the Andes on the border of Peru and Bolivia. It is notable for being the highest navigable lake in the world, sitting at an elevation of approximately 3,812 meters (12,507 feet) above sea level. The lake covers an area of about 8,372 square kilometers (3,232 square miles) and has a maximum depth of around 281 meters (922 feet). Lake Titicaca is renowned for its cultural significance, with numerous indigenous communities living along its shores and on its islands, including the Uros people who inhabit floating reed islands.
