Laon Cathedral, located in the town of Laon in northern France, is a stunning example of early Gothic architecture. Constructed primarily between the 12th and 13th centuries, the cathedral is renowned for its impressive façade, which features five large towers and intricately carved stonework. The interior is equally magnificent, with soaring vaulted ceilings, expansive stained glass windows, and a remarkable sense of verticality that draws the eye upward. One of the unique aspects of Laon Cathedral is its collection of stone oxen statues, a nod to the animals that historically helped transport the building materials up the steep hill on which the cathedral stands.
