Loevestein Castle, located in Zaltbommel, Netherlands, is a medieval castle with a rich history dating back to the late 14th century. Originally built by the knight Dirc Loef van Horne, the fortress served both as a defensive stronghold and a residence. Over the centuries, it has been used as a state prison, most famously housing the scholar and jurist Hugo Grotius, who made a daring escape in a book chest.
