The Longsheng Rice Terraces, also known as the Longji Rice Terraces or the Dragon's Backbone Rice Terraces, are located in Longsheng County, about 100 kilometers from Guilin in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China. These terraces were constructed over 650 years ago, during the Yuan Dynasty, and are renowned for their intricate design and breathtaking beauty. The terraced fields span from the river valley up to the mountain peaks, creating a stunning landscape that changes with the seasons—lush green in spring and summer, golden during the fall harvest, and frost-covered in winter. The terraces are not only a marvel of agricultural engineering but also a testament to the harmonious relationship between humans and nature. The area is inhabited by several ethnic minority groups, including the Zhuang and Yao people, who have preserved their traditional customs and way of life for centuries.
