Maiko National Park is a protected area located in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, near the city of Kisangani. Established in 1970, the park covers approximately 10,885 square kilometers and is known for its rich biodiversity and dense tropical rainforest. It is home to several endangered species, including the eastern lowland gorilla, the okapi, and the Congo peafowl. Maiko National Park also plays a crucial role in preserving the unique Congo Basin ecosystem. Despite its ecological significance, the park faces challenges such as poaching, illegal mining, and armed conflicts, which threaten its wildlife and habitats.
