The Maya Biosphere Reserve in Guatemala is one of the largest protected areas in Central America, encompassing over 21,600 square kilometers of tropical rainforest, wetlands, and ancient Mayan ruins. Established in 1990, it aims to conserve the region's rich biodiversity and cultural heritage. The reserve is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including jaguars, pumas, howler monkeys, and over 500 bird species. It also contains significant archaeological sites such as Tikal, El Mirador, and Uaxactun, offering a glimpse into the grandeur of the ancient Maya civilization.
