The museum was established to preserve and display historical structures from this transformative era in Japanese history, during which the country underwent significant modernization and Westernization. Visitors to Meiji-mura can explore over 60 buildings, including homes, schools, churches, and even a prison, that have been relocated and reconstructed on the museum grounds.
