The Metropolitan Cathedral of Panama City, also known as the Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of Santa Maria la Antigua, is a significant historical and architectural landmark located in the heart of Panama City, Panama. Constructed over a span of more than 100 years, from 1688 to 1796, the cathedral is a prime example of colonial architecture. Its facade features two distinctive bell towers adorned with mother-of-pearl from the Pearl Islands, which glisten in the sunlight. The cathedral has undergone various restorations over the centuries, most recently in preparation for World Youth Day in 2019. Inside, it houses beautiful altars, religious artifacts, and intricate woodwork that reflect its rich heritage.
