Mount Etna, located in the Metropolitan City of Catania on the east coast of Sicily, Italy, is the highest and most active volcano in Europe. Standing at approximately 3,329 meters (10,922 feet), though its height varies with eruptions, Etna has been erupting for several hundred thousand years. The volcano is one of the most studied in the world due to its frequent activity, which includes both explosive eruptions and effusive lava flows. Etna's fertile volcanic soils support extensive agriculture, including vineyards and orchards, making the surrounding region a vital area for local farming.
