Mount Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano located on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. It is best known for its catastrophic eruption on June 15, 1991, which was one of the largest volcanic eruptions of the 20th century. The eruption ejected massive amounts of volcanic ash and sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere, leading to global climatic changes and a temporary drop in average global temperatures. The eruption caused significant destruction in the surrounding areas, displacing thousands of residents and damaging infrastructure.
