Mount St. Helens is an active stratovolcano located in Skamania County, Washington, USA. It is most famous for its catastrophic eruption on May 18, 1980, which was one of the most significant volcanic events in U.S. history. The eruption drastically altered the landscape, reducing the elevation of the mountain's summit from 9,677 feet to 8,363 feet and creating a massive crater. The explosion released a massive amount of ash, lava, and volcanic debris, causing widespread destruction and loss of life. Today, Mount St. Helens is a popular destination for scientists, hikers, and tourists who are fascinated by its dramatic history and ongoing volcanic activity. The area around the volcano has been designated as the Mount St.
