Known for its extreme weather conditions, the summit has recorded some of the highest wind speeds on Earth, with a record of 231 miles per hour (372 kilometers per hour) in 1934. The mountain is a popular destination for hikers, climbers, and tourists, offering various trails and the historic Mount Washington Cog Railway, which has been transporting visitors to the summit since 1869.
