Muyil, also known as Chunyaxché, is an ancient Maya archaeological site located in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. It is situated within the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its rich biodiversity and stunning natural beauty. Muyil is one of the earliest and longest-lasting Maya settlements on the eastern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, with evidence of occupation dating back to around 300 BCE. The site is characterized by its well-preserved structures, including the prominent "El Castillo" pyramid, which stands approximately 17 meters tall and offers panoramic views of the surrounding jungle and nearby lagoons. Muyil also features various temples, platforms, and a sacbe (ancient Maya road) that connects it to other nearby sites. The area is less crowded compared to more famous Maya ruins like Tulum or Chichen Itza, providing a more serene and intimate experience for visitors.
