The Nakagin Capsule Tower in Tokyo, Japan, was a distinctive example of Metabolist architecture, designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa and completed in 1972. This unique building consisted of 140 prefabricated capsules, each serving as a small living or office space. The capsules were designed to be replaceable, reflecting the Metabolist movement's focus on flexibility and modularity in urban design. Despite its innovative design, the building faced challenges related to maintenance and was ultimately slated for demolition starting in 2022.
