The National Museum of Brazil, located in Rio de Janeiro, was one of the most significant cultural and scientific institutions in the country. Founded in 1818 by King John VI of Portugal, the museum was housed in the historic Paço de São Cristóvão, a former royal palace. The museum's extensive collections spanned various fields including natural history, anthropology, archaeology, and paleontology, featuring millions of artifacts and specimens. Notable exhibits included the Bendegó meteorite, one of the largest iron meteorites ever found, and the oldest human fossil discovered in the Americas, known as "Luzia.
