The New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia, USA, is an iconic steel arch bridge that spans the New River Gorge near Fayetteville. Opened on October 22, 1977, it was once the world's longest single-span arch bridge and remains one of the highest vehicular bridges in the world, standing 876 feet above the New River. The bridge is a vital part of U.S. Route 19, significantly reducing travel time across the rugged Appalachian terrain.
