Niš Fortress is a significant historical and cultural landmark located in the city of Niš, Serbia. It stands on the right bank of the Nišava River and is one of the best-preserved fortifications in the Balkans. The fortress has a rich history, with its origins dating back to Roman times, though most of its current structure was built by the Ottomans in the early 18th century. Covering 22 hectares, the fortress features robust stone walls, gates, and various buildings within its grounds, including the remains of a mosque, a hamam (Turkish bath), and a powder magazine.
