The Orto Botanico di Padova, located in Padua, Italy, is the world's oldest academic botanical garden that remains in its original location. Established in 1545 by the University of Padua for the study of medicinal plants, it represents a significant milestone in botanical science and education. The garden spans approximately 22,000 square meters and is home to around 7,000 plant species, including some rare and endangered varieties. Its layout and design reflect Renaissance ideals, with geometric flower beds, fountains, and greenhouses. The garden also features a distinctive circular central plot, surrounded by concentric rings of water, which has been preserved since its inception.
