Oscarsborg Fortress is a coastal fortress located in the Oslofjord near the town of Drøbak, Norway. It was constructed in the mid-19th century and has played a significant role in Norwegian military history. The fortress is especially famous for its role during World War II, when its artillery successfully sank the German heavy cruiser Blücher on April 9, 1940, delaying the Nazi invasion of Norway and allowing the Norwegian royal family and government to escape. Today, Oscarsborg Fortress is a popular tourist attraction, offering guided tours, a museum, and various cultural events.
