Our Lady of Meritxell, located in Canillo, Andorra, is a significant cultural and religious site dedicated to the patron saint of the country. The sanctuary, which is part of the Roman Catholic tradition, holds great historical and spiritual importance for the Andorran people. The original chapel, dating back to the 12th century, was destroyed by fire in 1972, but a modern basilica was subsequently constructed and inaugurated in 1976. The sanctuary is an important pilgrimage destination and features a replica of the medieval statue of the Virgin Mary, which was lost in the fire.
